Shine

When I was in high school, all the teachers told me I'm bad, I'm bad. No I didn't listen to a word they said. It went in and out my head, my head. I learned how to love without you, love without you, I'm doing fine. When I was in high school, my best friend told me that he was not right. Said he wouldn't live past 21 and he was right. Oh, what a wasted life.
In 1998 John Shine walked off the Golden Gate and left a trail behind him a mile wide. Mom died from a broken heart. Blamed herself for the suicide. Soul went out with the morning tide. And now 21 years have passed. Boy the years they go fast. And now 21 years have passed. Boy the years they go fast.
In 1998 john Shine walked off the Golden Gate and left a trail behind him a mile wide. Mom died of a broken heart. Blamed herself for the suicide. Soul went out with the morning tide. With the mourning tide, with the mourning tide.

Nature's Motherload
03:04
|
|||
My dear, I wonder if you would follow me down into a dream I had last night.
It was a place we've been before but haven't been back since. It looks like two places at once but both of them are homes to me and you, they're home to me and you.
And when we wake up lets make a list of all the things we need to do before we go to the other side of life, and all the land and sea explode in a nature's motherload, in a nature's motherload, in a nature's motherload.
Well the headlights are frozen and the midnight air has chosen the only road that night. Time marches on. Well the headlights are frozen and the midnight air has chosen the deer in the road that night . Well the headlights are frozen and the midnight air has chosen the deer in the road that night. Well the headlights are frozen and the midnight air has chosen........

The Quietest Train
04:44
|
|||
We let loose all the armies. The tanks they reveled in the cavalries song.
We set free all the ships at sea, as they lumbered to the beach of Normandy.
And the trains left so early, they didn't make a sound. Just the tired eyes of soldiers at dawn. Yes the trains left so early with a thousand mother's sons. With the promises of letters sent home.
We signed all the treaties, then promptly ripped them up to Chamberlain's cries.
The young men were uneasy so they climbed atop the quietest train and they lifted their arms up to touch the cypress trees, as the smoke from the engine rushed by. And they smiled at each other not knowing that it'd be the last time they'd see her majesty.
And they smiled at each other but they didn't make a sound. Oh, the young men on the quietest train.
from the mountains of Norway to the streets of Stalingrad, six years is a lifetime.

Smile Girl

Tambourine plays your favorite song. Remembering love lost but the band plays on. It's getting late now. Your hair is grey. Remember the old friends that got away. What happened to that smile girl, on a sunny afternoon? Relationships they always tangle you up. Write the words down, drink them up. Always thirsty, you're always sinking down. What happened to that smile girl, on a sunny afternoon? The parties over. Life begins. Tender emotions. Sinking ships. Crash your car. Crash your life. Crashin' over and over. What happened to that smile girl? What happened to that smile girl?

Sunny & Jane
04:28
|

She walked out the door. Lit the match on a flaming house to nowhere. He was high on low. Left a stain on the window, drying old pane. They was hypnotized. That old tender frame called out their names and ash rain. And they was gone, gone in the night before the sirens came. That was Sunny and Jane. Gone, gone. And they was gone, gone in the night before the sirens came. They was born again. Gone, gone. And they was gone, gone in the night before the sirens came. That was Sunny and Jane. And they was gone like Sunny and Jane. And they was gone like Sunny and Jane. And they was gone like Sunny and Jane. And they was gone like Sunny and Jane.

I hopped a freight train. Watched you fade away. You wrote me a letter. Said don't read it today. Wait till that Sun is hangin' low in the sky, you're hungry and you wish you would die. Oh, wish you would die. Oh, wish you would die. Oh, wish you would die. I set the table. Well, a table for one. That can of soup is all I had but my gun. I was down to one shot. Yeah I saved it for you. My hair trigger and you. My hair trigger and you. My hair trigger and you. My hair trigger! My hair trigger! You're barefoot, I'm confident. I love your hand-me-down moves on a barefoot moonlight. We walked the sidewalk, yap, yap, yap, yap till sunrise. How I love the way you slow dance in your hand-me-down dress, girl oh my. You look like a 'B' movie star in the moonlight. Oh baby, your hand-me-downs.
I was dreamin' of the places on the dark side of the track. I was just dreamin' on the dark side of the track. I don't wanna be here in the station all alone. I don't wanna die here, so far from my home. Well I don't know what that old man in the sky is preachin' bout but if his lips are moving there's lies coming out his mouth. coming out his mouth. I don't know what that old man is preachin' about. If his mouth is moving there's lies coming out. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.....

Downtown

Downtown we see the faces of people around us, ok.
Sunshine through trees with leaves. We feel the breeze, it's so gay.
Love fruit shoots through the knees, up to the spleen, the birdies.
Cool dew, reflecting sunbeams of a mandarin daydream with ice cream.
The way the sunlight fell on us like...So fuckin' groovy, oh so fuckin' groovy.
In the summer we didn't feel a ..... So fuckin' groovy, oh so fuckin' groovy.
The way the sunlight fell on us like...So fuckin' groovy, oh so fuckin' groovy.
In the summer we didn't feel a ..... So fuckin' groovy, oh so fuckin' groovy.
The way the sunlight fell on us like rain. Oh so fuckin' groovy.
It was so cool we didn't feel a thing. Fuckin' groovy, oh so fuckin' groovy.

Tame The White Albatross
04:09

My Grandfather is from a holler in Eastern Kentucky. He had my Mom and then she had me.
Well I was raised in Humboldt county. Where hillbillies cut down Victorians and live in trees.
When I was 21 I done got myself kidnapped in Morocco. I stayed for 4 days then decided it wasn't for me.
I called Ryanne when I got back to London. She could tell by my voice something was wrong but I said don't worry babe, I'm gonna sail the 7 seas.
When you smell the ripe stench of land you know you are further from home.
And the strung out captain has gone ashore.
He's trading the Russians Rubber Soul and jeans but now they want tracksuits, gold chains and speed.
There's statues of Lenin but no sign of Paul.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we shipwrecked again upon the rocks.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we've shipwrecked again.
When you smell the ripe stench of land you know you are further from home.
And the strung out captain has gone ashore.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we shipwrecked again upon the rocks.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we shipwrecked again upon the rocks.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we shipwrecked again upon the rocks.
Tame the White Albatross. Looks like we........

In Your Room
03:12
|
|||
Lets stay under the covers till noon.
We'll swallow some drugs then we'll redo your room.
You'll try on dresses then you'll make me choose.
You'll stare at photographs, I'll read the news.
Your record collection is strewn across the floor.
I'll tell you stories that you've heard before
but you'll listen intently, like you've never heard before.
But you'll listen intently, like you've never heard before.
You told me things that were locked in your head.
I told you things that I shouldn't have said.
You throw your money all over the floor.
Just like your life you can't change it no more.
I drew a picture, a picture of you.
You said it looked like a girl you once knew.
But you listen intently, like you've never heard before.
But you listen intently, like you've never heard before.

The Flood of '64
02:44
|
|||
Terry started the plane up as the flood came rollin' in. We took off on the highway as the water crested the old man's chin.
We lost all the photographs in the flood of '64, but we still got the memories of a time before the storm. We'll keep flyin' 'til we reach another shore. There ain't nothing behind us anymore.
We flew in the old biplane. We could see for miles and miles. Mountains turn to foothills.
The old house is the new sea floor.
We lost all the photographs in the flood of '64, but we still got the memories of a time before the storm. We'll keep flyin' 'til we reach another shore. There ain't nothing behind us anymore.
We lost all the photographs in the flood of '64, but there ain't no more cryin'. There ain't no what for. We're making new memories on our new shore. There ain't nothing behind us anymore.
